Door frames fixed without holdfasts or anchor fasteners

Fix wooden, WPC, steel or aluminium door frames with foam, jigs and packing, with crack-free plaster all round.

MULTIFOAM PRO 5145 · DIN 4102 B2

Foam holds the frame on all sides. See it in the 3D building

Why sites fix door frames with foam

The old way

  • Drilling and anchor screws into the wall
  • Plaster cracks when you drill
  • Cracks grow with door slams and wind
  • Ugly patches, repaired again and again

The MULTIFOAM way

  • No drilling or anchors in door frames
  • Frames go in after flooring, away from plaster and curing water
  • The gap is sealed for thermal and sound insulation

No drilling. No cracks. The frame sits tight, warm and quiet, for years.

Window frames still need mechanical anchors. There, MULTIFOAM seals and insulates the joint.

Five steps to a fixed door frame

  1. 1

    Prepare wall and frame

Use a well-cured plastered wall, keep the frame's bonding faces bare, and wipe off dust and grease.

Tip: Not into POP or gypsum plaster. In very hot weather, sprinkle water on the wall first.

  2. 2

    Set the frame true

Pack a 12-15 mm gap with shims, check plumb, level and diagonals, then fix two jigs.

Tip: One jig at mid-height, one 6-8 inches above the floor, so the foam can't move the legs.

  3. 3

    Shake and fill

Shake the can about 20 times, then fill the gap from the bottom up to about 80-85%.

Tip: Discard the first strand and keep the valve down. Foam gaps deeper than 50 mm in layers.

  4. 4

    Cure, then trim

Leave it 5-8 hours to cure, remove jigs and shims, foam the pockets, trim excess after 24 hours.

Tip: Curing time depends on humidity. The frame is load-bearing after 3-5 hours.

  5. 5

    Cover the foam

Plaster over it, or use UV-proof elastomeric paint outside and gypsum or POP inside.

Tip: Cured foam is not UV-stable, so cover it without delay.

Door frames need no screws or anchors. Window frames need foam plus anchors, as the MULTIFOAM PRO 5145 data sheet states. Full method: application guide, sheet 01 (PDF).
